My little grandson is growing up! He recently started walking, and in March, we took him to the beach where he walked on sand for the first time.
At first, he seemed unsure of what to think. He wobbled, fell over, and took time to examine the sand. He quickly realized that walking on sand is not quite the same as walking on firm ground. It was all new to him, and he had to adjust.
Transitions in life, just like learning to walk on sand, mirror the transitions we experience in business.
Growth requires change
As a business owner, you’ve realized that growth requires change. You can’t do everything yourself, there simply aren’t enough hours in the day. Managing everything alone often leads to burnout and limits how much your business can expand. Hiring staff helps lighten the load.
Growth isn’t just about hiring employees. It’s also about assessing which tasks you handle personally. One area that many business owners struggle to delegate is financial management. You may have a great office manager who helps with bookkeeping, yet you still find yourself deeply involved in the day-to-day finances.
Is it time to take a step back and bring in professional help for your books?
You can still have control
Letting go of financial tasks can feel unsettling, just like my grandson learning to walk on sand. However, delegating doesn’t mean losing control. It simply means structuring your workflow differently.
For example, if you’re concerned about bill payments, you can still have the final say on which bills get paid and when. Services like Bill allow you to maintain oversight while freeing up your time for other important tasks.
Additionally, working with a financial professional who specializes in small businesses can provide valuable insights that you might not have noticed on your own.
Others might do it better
There’s an old saying: “Jack of all trades, master of none.” While you are undoubtedly a master of your trade, are you also a master of financial management?
Hiring a skilled bookkeeper or accountant can benefit your business in several ways:
- Your accounting will be handled in a timely manner
- You will know how much money is in your bank accounts
- You will know who owes you and who you owe
- You will gain additional financial insights
When it comes to certain tasks, we need to acknowledge the need for skilled help. If I need work done on my house, I call an expert. But I wouldn’t call those same contractors to handle my books! The same principle applies to your business. Just as you provide expert services to your clients, you deserve expert financial management for your business.
