Millennials are taking over the work force. They have surpassed the baby boomers as the nation’s largest living generations. Millennials are those born between 1980 and close to 2000. Most likely you have millennials working in your business, in fact you might have predominantly millennials in your business. It’s important to understand millennials because they are most likely on your staff and because they might be your clients. Today we will discuss how millennials use cloud based technology.
The Cloud
We discussed what the cloud is in a previous post. We are a cloud based bookkeeping company that uses the cloud primarily. Our main cloud usage comes from using Xero, a cloud based bookkeeping program. We love using Xero and other cloud based companies because of their ease of use and the ability to access it anywhere and everywhere.
Millennials and the Cloud
Millennials enjoy feeling productive and efficiently. Millennials want to be connected at all times. They feel lost without Wi-Fi. Millennials also strive to have a life-work balance.
Cloud based technology is suiting to all the things millennials strive for. By working in the cloud you can work remotely if needed and still be up to date with the current project. The practice of “hot desking” is becoming popular in some work places where employees sit at any free desk or work from remote locations. According to research millennials can and do work anytime and anywhere, they love mobile technology, while 52 percent use smartphones and 62 percent use tablets.
Millennials prefer to collaborate and work in teams. The cloud can accommodate this very well. Technologies such as Google Docs enable teams to work on the same live document through the cloud. Xero works well with collaborating on a project. If you click on the discuss tab you can write notes or ask questions that another team member or client can answer.
The future is moving towards the cloud. Millennials love the cloud and generally are good at using it. If you own a business and want to keep your millennial employees happy consider using the cloud technology more. If you are a business owner yourself consider using cloud accounting technology to streamline your financial information and be able to get access to it whenever and wherever you need it.
