Recently our team was talking about how bookkeeping used to be done with a paper system. How archaic that method seems now! Much has changed with client accounting services today.
Think about all the changes the industry has seen in the last 20 years. From paper to the desktop computer, from the desktop computer to the cloud. The changes have been huge.
Where we work has changed
Technology has greatly changed where we work. Gone are the days when bookkeepers and accountants drove to their client’s offices and worked onsite. Now, most work can be done from anywhere.
Accounting Today says “Industry sources agree that cloud-based software will only grow in importance for firms as both consumers and businesses become increasingly comfortable operating in the cloud. In fact, many clients have come to expect the convenience and flexibility.”
Our workforce has changed
Millennials are also changing the way things are done. Millennials are those born between 1980-2000 and are currently making up the young workforce. In fact, Millennials are making up about half of the workforce in the next few years.
Amy Vetter, Global Vice President of Education and Head of Accounting at Xero said this about Millennials, “a Millennial walking in doesn’t want to do the manual work of the past. They aren’t necessarily looking at becoming partner. They are looking for knowledge, excitement, and purpose.”
She also mentioned, ” When you change your practice to be focused on a certain industry and a Millennial is passionate about that industry … that is really exciting for them to learn all of the tools, but then figure out how do you keep making these small businesses better.”
Our approach with clients has changed…for the better
In this article from Accounting Today, I was quoted as saying “When we [our firm] made this transition from desktop software to online accounting software, it really did change how we provided services…What we are able to do is we are able to really collaborate with the client and have interaction. When they have a problem we are able to really collaborate with the client and have interaction. When they have a problem we are able to address it right away. We are proactive.”
We were honored to be featured in a magazine as noteworthy as Accounting Today. To find out more about this subject you can read the rest of the article.
Here at Beyond, we love the cloud and we love technology. We strive hard to keep ahead of the curve by providing modern client accounting services. Are you ready for a change? Read this post about what working with our firm is like.
